The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council’s Strategic Planning Department is currently seeking a Senior Sustainability Officer to join a committed and passionate Sustainability Team. It is a great opportunity to lead, and at times, contribute to policy and strategy to provide expert advice on energy, carbon management, climate change action and Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD). 

 

The Senior Sustainability Officer will be responsible for policy and projects that contribute towards creating a sustainable city and Council’s commitment to achieving zero net emissions both within our community and within Council.

 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategy work to prioritise actions to progress the Council’s strategic directions to reduce carbon emissions and achieve ESD outcomes in the City of Moonee Valley.
  • Provide high level advice about climate change mitigation and adaptation related issues and opportunities, energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste management, both internally and externally.
  • Manage environmental sustainability projects from initiation through to implementation.
  • Engage with a range of external stakeholders and partner organisations. Undertake research and analysis to deliver up-to-date and timely knowledge of emerging trends, opportunities, policy, practice, innovation and technology in relevant areas of environmental sustainability such as energy, carbon, waste management and climate change.

 

 About You

To be suitable for this position, you will possess:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Practical experience in designing and delivering projects to reduce carbon emissions, and address climate change adaptation measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse ESD principles, energy and carbon issues and develop policy responses.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including project planning, budgeting, engaging and supervising consultants and contractors, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
  • Highly developed analytical and written communication skills for a range or purposes and audiences.
