Powerlink is expanding, and we're on the lookout for passionate Principal & Senior Engineers to join our Power System Performance & Connections team. If you're driven by the prospect of shaping the future of Queensland's energy transmission network, this is your chance to make a significant impact.

As a Principal / Senior Engineer, you’ll help find clever solutions to interesting power system problems as you grow your skills every day.

You will make recommendations on the connection or modification of synchronous, non-synchronous generators (Wind Farms, Solar Farms, BESS) and new inverter based loads. You will also be responsible for performing system level assessments in EMT, RMS and frequency (small signal) domain, setting of network control systems and the specification of network plants.

In this role you will;

  • Lead projects/investigations to model and simulate power system behaviour ensuring network capacity & performance meet standards
  • Assess the impact of renewable energy integration on network performance, limitations, security and development of the network;
  • Make recommendations on the connection of Pumped Hydro and Synchronous Condensers to the network
  • Assessing new and modified generating systems and inverter based load for compliance with NER performance standards and modelling requirements.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Engineers and Development Engineers

Your expertise

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or willing to obtain
  • Significant knowledge of power system plant characteristics and the ability to model power system plant and power system behaviour
  • Proficiency in computer-based power system modelling and analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, SSAT)
  • Knowledge of the National Electricity Rules (NER) with respect to the system standards and generator performance standards (GPS)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts effectively
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong critical thinking, independent judgment, and problem-solving skills
