As a Principal Inspector, you will be working with a team of dedicated inspectors responsible for ensuring the ongoing safety of people, property and the environment from the most significant hazards in Western Australia. The team performs this through the administration of the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982; the Petroleum Pipelines Act 1969 the Petroleum, the Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 and all associated safety regulations.
You will provide specialised assessment and regulatory oversight of safety and risk management relating to both onshore and offshore petroleum operations in the state. This will include process safety audits, inspections and performance monitoring of petroleum safety for compliance with the legislation.
This position is located in East Perth however, may be required to work at other sites as required.
Who are we looking for?
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced process safety professional with a diverse oil and gas industry background, with the following experience:
- Thorough understanding of the Safety Case regime and the technical capability to review and assess safety critical controls.
- Previous significant experience in conducting process safety audits related to oil and gas/ petroleum operations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders and contribute to team goals will be key in successfully undertaking this role.
What do you require to successfully undertake the role?
- Bachelor of Engineering or Science in a petroleum, chemical, process or electrical discipline or other approved Bachelor degree relevant to the resources industry;
- Significant experience in petrochemical, oil and gas and/or industrial chemical technologies in a range of technical or regulatory positions, including technical or regulatory leadership
- Extensive experience in process safety and/or control systems as well as technical risk management including conduct of inspections or audits of systems for safety compliance including the management of the safety inspection/audit regime; and
- Proven leadership in developing motivated and cohesive work teams to achieve cultural change.

Please note that completion of a National Police Clearance, possession of a ‘C’ class drivers licence, Pre-Employment Medical Assessment (including baseline hearing test), psychological assessment and pre-employment Conflict of Interest declaration, will also form part of the selection process.
