Scientific Engineering Services (SES) Branch provides specialised engineering, design and fabrication solutions to DST Group, with expertise spanning all aspects of electronic and mechanical engineering and fabrication. Reporting to Supervisor Electronic Design Engineering, the Senior Electronics Engineer (SEE) is responsible for providing professional engineering leadership within the Electronic Design and Engineering section with a focus on a design domain aligned with their background, skills and expertise. The SEE is further responsible for managing technically complex engineering projects, providing substantial engineering expertise to project work and mentoring junior staff in their field of expertise.

This is an S&T5 position that requires a reasonable contribution towards management responsibilities. The successful applicant will typically oversee and guide the work of design engineers, lead projects according to SES’ ISO 9001 Quality Management System and interface with Project/Program/Senior Managers.

Major responsibilities of the role

  • Perform the design and development of complex hosted and embedded electronic hardware and software sub-systems as part of a team of professional and technical engineering personnel
    • Hosted Software Design
    • Embedded Microprocessor Based Software Design
    • FPGA targeted logic design (VHDL)
    • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design
    • High Speed Digital Electronics Design
    • Analog Power Systems and Data Acquisition Systems
  • Project manage complex design, development, review, manufacture and implementation activities requiring a team of professional and technical engineering personnel.
  • Interact with personnel or project teams from SES, DSTO, ADO and external industry on matters of a complex engineering nature.
  • Apply quality management principles and associated business procedures within an ISO9001 accredited quality system.
  • Provide technical and professional oversight to an engineering design domain.

Management and / or supervisory and / or leadership responsibilities included in the role:

  • Lead and manage complex electronic and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Supervise a small team of design engineers within a project.
  • Prepare project requirements, budgets, project schedules and other project documentation.
  • Assist the Supervisor Electronic Design Engineering in the management and oversight of the electronic design engineering team.
  • Apply quality management principles and associated business procedures within an ISO9001 accredited quality system.
