The Faculty of Science is one of six faculties operating within the University and includes the School of Chemistry, Geosciences, Life and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics, Psychology, the Sydney School of Veterinary Science and the Unit for History and Philosophy of Science.

The Faculty also stewards a range of research entities including the Institute of Agriculture and the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics, and partners with University-wide research centres including the Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), The Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) and the Australian Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology (AINST).

The Team Leader position leads a team of electrical and electronics staff, dedicated to developing new and custom electronic prototypes. It supports research and teaching by delivering sound, expert technical support and advice to staff, academics and post graduate students in electrical and electronic systems. In addition, it provides a service that ensures that laboratory and teaching equipment is properly maintained and is functioning safely. The role is required to maintain a fully equipped electronics workshop, fit for purpose to support clients’ requirements; collaborate with teaching and research groups to ensure that laboratory and teaching spaces comply with the relevant electrical, WHS standards and are aligned to the University’s policies and provisions.

The position will change into the newly formed Design and Prototyping (D&P) Group, which is a feature of a new organisational structure created to enhance services for the Faculty of Science.

Position duties include:

• providing expert technical support and advice
• designing and constructing systems in collaboration with research staff
• leading a team of electronic technicians
• maintaining electronics workshop
• Collaborate on projects with mechanical staff in the D&P Group

Position requirements include:

• tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering and extensive practical experience or trade certificate/diploma with equivalent operational experience at this level
• experience with PCB design, assembly and repair
• circuit design using modelling software e.g. SPICE, Eagle, Altium
• a high level of client engagement and communication skills
• experience leading a small team of technicians is desirable

Remuneration package: $116,059 - $130,888 p.a. (which includes a base salary $98,071 - $110,602 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).

This position is subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
