Our environmental solutions team works on a wide range of exciting projects, including characterisation through to remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater, vapour and sediment; due diligence assessments; rehabilitation and revegetation; landfill design and monitoring; environmental compliance audits; environmental planning and approvals; risk assessment and associated risk management for commercial and government clients throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific Region.

 

We are recruiting for a Senior Project Manager to manage large-scale and complex site investigations and to lead an interesting variety of other projects. The Senior Project Manager will provide technical leadership within the Queensland team and fulfil an important mentoring role in our growing northern team. This role can be part time or full time to suit the successful candidate.

 

Project Management

  • Project management of environmental assessments and remediation projects, including client liaison, scheduling, resource and financial management and internal reporting, and complying with the Company QA/QC requirements. 
  • Commitment to the ‘Beyond Zero’ culture and promotion of high standards of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Responsible for contract reviews, management and compliance through project delivery
  • Responsible for the development of Health, Safety and Environmental Plans; risk identification and management on projects
  • Responsible for technical reviews of reports, Sampling, Analytical and Quality Plans (SAQP) and other deliverables to ensure quality assurance and technical accuracy. 
  • Managing sub-consultants and subcontractors to ensure they deliver timely, cost-effective and safe services.
  • Regularly communicating with clients to provide project updates and to seek feedback on project performance
  • Responsible for achieving successful completion of projects ensuring that deliverables meet the client’s expectations, within budget as well as timely and accurate reporting of project performance against agreed financial and non-financial (KPI) targets.
  • Technical writer and/or reviewer to ensure high quality project reports and other project outputs.
  • Provide leadership, training and mentoring of more junior staff on projects.
  • Actively working as part of the senior environmental team for planning, staffing, schedule, budget, quality and safety 
  • Be willing to travel within Australia to meet with existing and prospective clients.
  • A client representative in community and stakeholder engagement activities, if required for project delivery services

Professional Currency

  • Maintain a professional membership and attend industry events to retain professional certifications or accreditations, and to keep connected within the industry 
  • Remain current and aware of emerging science and technical developments
  • Be well-informed of regulatory changes and amendments to guidance documents and standards relevant to the industry.
  • Work closely with CH2M’s international technologists, to ensure global best practice is consistently available to our clients and offered in our project delivery services

Sales and Business Development

  • Contribute to the company’s overall sales targets by cultivating excellent client relationships through consistently high standards of project delivery and client communication.
  • Assist the Sales Managers in identifying and pursuing potential projects.
  • Lead or provide technical support on tenders and proposals, including establishment of bid budget, management of internal approval procedures, management of bid team, bid preparation and monitoring of bid cost and expenditure.
  • Responsible for developing methodology and the cost estimations for fee proposals
  • Responsible for gaining internal policy approvals for higher risk projects, if applicable, to the tendered work scopes or for proposed variations to approved project scopes
  • Technical writer and/or reviewer to ensure high quality tender submissions

 

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • A tertiary qualification in geology, engineering or science
  • Minimum 12 years contaminated sites experience 
  • Excellent project management and technical skills and proven track record in the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites
  • Demonstrated experience in business development and winning new business though identifying and pursuing leads and awarded tenders 
  • Proven track record delivering the projects on time, on budget, safely and to high quality standards
  • A sound and current knowledge and demonstrated experience in the application of Queensland and Australian environmental legislation
  • Recognition as a suitably qualified person, as defined in Schedule 8 of the Queensland Environmental Protection Regulation 2008.
  • Experience in managing site investigations which involved emerging contaminants would be highly valued
  • Certified Environmental Practitioner (Site Contamination) would be desirable 
  • Scheduling skills and conversant in software like Microsoft Project
  • Be well connected in the Australian contaminated sites market and show an understanding of the challenges facing the industry at present
  • Illustrate knowledge of the operational attention to detail that will be required to succeed in the industry
  • Permanent Residency of Australia or Australian citizenship essential
  • A full current driver’s licence is required
