Senior Research Engineer, Surgery & Electrodes

 

The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a Senior Research Engineer, Surgery & Electrodes based in our Macquarie Park site in Sydney. In this role, the successful Senior Research Engineer, Surgery & Electrodes will develop and deliver innovative solutions, new technologies building blocks, proof of concepts and feasibility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Scoping, planning and delivering work packages to support the Advanced Innovation product goals and R&D product vision and roadmap
  • Generating novel and valuable ideas in the Surgery and Electrodes space, submitting Invention Disclosures and supporting the patenting process
  • Leading high-quality designs or research activities within the technical domain and influencing designs across neighbouring domains.
  • Proactively suggesting opportunities for technical improvements within Cochlear's products, platforms, or research areas and drive towards implementation
  • Proactively assessing and mitigating product risk (e.g. impact on customer) and ensuring solutions are found
  • Making technical decisions in the face of ambiguity to move a project forward
  • Proactively monitoring the technology landscape to be aware of external innovations
  • Incorporating industry best practice and learnings from previous projects and products
  • May be required to provide technical support on; Product Development projects, Process Engineering projects, Manufacturing Support projects, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and issue investigations
  • Conducting hands-on prototyping and testing to iteratively develop new designs

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in an applicable discipline (e.g. Biomedical, Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering)
  • 3+ years' experience performing project technical work
  • Demonstrated capability in participation in cross-functional teams executing technically complex new product projects.
  • Pragmatic problem solver of difficult problems and producer of solutions outside standard procedures.
  • Demonstrated capability with CAD tools, drawings & mechanical tolerances
  • Quality minded, focused on details
  • Strong skills in cross-functional thinking
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
