Air Training and Aviation Commons Systems Program Office (ATACSPO) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer who is able to work independently and autonomously. You will display both initiative and judgement, enabling the interpretation of policy and the application of practices and procedures.  

As an Engineering Professional, you will provide detailed engineering, technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work. You will contribute to strategic planning, program and project management assurance, and policy development. You are expected to have knowledge of, and comply with legislative frameworks, government decision making and Defence's mission and policy requirements. You will be responsible for exercising assigned engineering authorities.

The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment, and possess the agility to realign themselves to meet new demands. The successful applicant is expected to be sensitive to Defence strategic direction and seek support and guidance to be equipped to excel in their capabilities. The position requires stakeholder engagement (including with industry) and therefore the successful candidate will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  We are seeking candidates with a diverse range of experience and backgrounds in engineering, including people who have gained their experience outside Defence and Government.

As part of the Joint Aviation Systems Division (JASD) within CASG, ATACSPO is located in Regional Victoria at the RAAF Base East Sale with an office also located within the Melbourne CBD.

Our Ideal Candidate
ATACSPO is seeking applicants who are able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to apply established engineering principles, techniques and methods to solve problems relating to the sustainment, design, development, integration and evaluation of military equipment or other complex military systems. 

Key attributes and experience we are looking for:

  • A demonstrated track record working within engineering projects in the Air domain (or similar) using appropriate engineering practices;
  • A thorough understanding of engineering disciplines;
  • Demonstrated focus on timely resolution of issues;
  • High Level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders; and
  • A team player who values team work and performs well in a diverse and integrated environment.
