Planning & Approvals Adviser 

We are NSW’s bulk water supplier, river operator and your one-stop shop for licensing, water trades and water information.  We supply two thirds of water used in NSW from our 42 dams, rivers and pipelines to regional towns, irrigators, Sydney Water and local water utilities.

WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Planning & Approvals Adviser to join the Safety, People & Culture team reporting to the Environmental Services Manager. In this role you will provide expert planning approvals advice to relevant projects associated with the WaterNSW project pipeline and ensure compliance with relevant state and federal planning legislation as it relates to the assessment of infrastructure projects to secure water resources across the state & put safety first.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Work collaboratively with Project Manager(s) and consultants to obtain the necessary planning and environmental approvals
  • Integrate with Project Managers to implement design and mitigation measures to ensure the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development are achieved and documented
  • Ensure the deliverables prepared by the key service providers are high quality, adequate and complete including quality assurance and review of documentation
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders to develop effective and ongoing relationships with key parties
  • Project manage key suppliers to deliver the scope within approved time frames and budget

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • Degree in environmental management/engineering/planning, Natural Resource Management or related discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, Fisheries Management Act and other relevant state and federal planning legislation as it relates to the assessment of infrastructure projects
  • Extensive experience in interpreting and applying the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the associated regulations and other legislative and statutory frameworks relevant to environmental planning within NSW or equivalent in other jurisdictions
  • Experience in planning, investigation, report preparation and submission of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) or Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for major infrastructure projects
  • Current NSW drivers license
