Naval Architect & Marine Drafting - Aluminium

 

The Role:

As one of Australia's leading Aluminium boat builders its never been a more exciting time to join our team as we expand the range of Recreational, Maritime and Defence vessels we build.

For over 25 years our Seatamer brand has built commercial vessels for Navy, Police, Maritime, and many other commercial applications. 

We own our design IP. You will be integrally involved in the end-to-end design and manufacturing process from day one. There is no better way to see in real-time how the design process translates to the build process and into the water.

As our in-house Naval Architect and Drafter, you will be responsible for working with and developing our existing designs, design modification, and improvement. Plan preparation, quality assurance on the factory floor, tender preparation, and liaising with our panel of external Naval Architects. 

In this role, you will:

  • Complete structural design for a range of vessel types, applying robust systems engineering process;
  • Review and innovate our existing designs;
  • Develop new vessels and prototypes; 
  • Perform first principle structural calculations to the required standards;
  • Support the workshop manager;
  • Support projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule, and engagement of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Plan and administrate design coordination and review meetings with engineering project stakeholders;

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrable skills in vessel design using Rhino.
  • Demonstrable skills in vessel class calculation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, both first principals and FEA
  • Demonstrated understanding of hull structures and material (particularly aluminum) properties
  • Strong work ethics and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently

It would be an advantage to have:

  • Bachelor Degree - Engineering (Naval Architect or Mechanical)
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance

Salary Range

We are happy to pay you based on the experience and expertise you bring.

Drafter (no boat experience) $70-80K + training bonus
Naval Drafter (not a Naval Architect) $75-95K based on competency
Naval Architect (drafting skill low) $85-95k + training bonus 
Naval Architect - Vessel designer $95K - $135K based on competency
