The Queensland Government has recognized Kathy Hirschfeld, an eminent chemical engineer, as an inspiration to women in Queensland considering careers in traditionally male dominated fields.

The Queensland Minister for Women Karen Struthers presented a pink hard hat to Ms Hirschfeld at the Women in Engineering committee of Engineering Australia's annual leadership breakfast.

After a 20 year career with BP, Ms Hirschfeld is now a non-executive director of Snowy Hydro Limited and the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, and a Senator of the University of Queensland.
