A new $62 million training at Northbridge, Perth will become the centrepiece for one of Western Australia’s biggest State Training Providers.

The Central Institute of Technology’s new building on Aberdeen Street, recently officially opened, is the final stage in the development of an extensive training precinct in the area.

Covering 11,000 square metres, the building links all of Central’s existing sites on Aberdeen and Newcastle streets, accommodating up to 26,000 students, and adds further value to the existing City of Perth cultural and education complex.

It has co-located training programs from the key skill shortage areas of engineering, architecture design and building.

“Central’s new facility will deliver training across broad industry areas and play a key role in providing targeted training for industries that require specialist or technical skilled labour.”

Funded by the Federal and State governments, the building will include adaptable, applied research laboratories and live spaces, as well as a dedicated support unit for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Central is a major provider of higher level qualifications in WA, delivering 66 per cent of the State’s engineering and building qualifications at Certificate IV level and above.

About 29,000 students, including more than 1,300 international students, are enrolled at Central’s six campuses, all located close to the Perth CBD.
