Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has announced it has awarded a Leighton Contractors/Abigroup alliance the $265 million Epping to Thornleigh Third Track (ETTT) contract.

Under the project, the alliance will design and construct approximately 6 kilometres of new track, three turnouts, bridgeworks and station works at Cheltenham, Pennant Hills and Beecroft Stations.

By providing additional northbound paths for freight trains, the project aims to significantly reduce waiting times for freight trains and increase the reliability of both freight and passenger services.

“Our ETTT Alliance team integrates civil, track, electrical and signalling specialists who are experienced in managing complex interfaces between construction and rail operations to safely and efficiently deliver major projects within the live rail network,” Leighton’s Managing Director Craig Laslett said.

ETTT is a key component of the Northern Sydney Freight Corridor (NSFC) Program upgrading the 155 kilometre Main North Line between Sydney and Newcastle, which is a shared passenger and freight line.
