The latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that engineering construction activity remained strong in the March 2011 quarter, with the total value engineering construction work done  rising by 3.8 per cent.

 

The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total engineering construction work done rose 4.2% in the March quarter, to $22,210.6m.

 

In the private sector, $13,903.2m of work was undertaken (seasonally adjusted), up by 1.4%, while seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of work done for the public sector rose 9.3% in the March quarter, to $8,307.4m.

 

However, the value of work commenced in the March quarter was $18,882.4m, a decrease of 34.5% from the December quarter.

 

The figures update the preliminary estimates released in Construction Work Done, Australia (cat. no. 8755.0) on 25 May 2011.
