More strife for the embattled Australian car-maker, with reports Holden is waiting on engineers to finish the new Cruze.

General Motors, which sells the Holden Cruze under its Chevrolet brand, has reportedly moved back the release date for the new model. The launch had been planned for the late 2014, reports today say that will now be sometime in 2015. The reasoning for the delay is that the manufacturer wants to call engineering teams back into the drawing room to spruce up features and styling on the next Cruze.

Reports say the American manufacturer has called for more engineering touch-ups to the car, apparently so it can “cut through the clutter” of the international small car market. Some insiders say the companies may be trying to squeeze the rest out of the sales potential for the current models too.

The Cruze has been a popular car both in the US and in Australia, taking the number two spot on America’s top sellers this year. The car is currently Australia’s fourth most popular; behind the Hyundai i30, Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla.

The car-maker says it is committed to stepping-up the technological inclusions on its newest line of Cruze and Commodore, packing in features such as satellite navigation and iPhone integration.
