The Victorian Government has announced it has granted planning approval for the $500 million expansion to Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre.

State Planning Minister Matthew Guy approved Amendment C154 to expand the complex, saying it was a significant step towards supporting a thriving, competitive retail sector.

The project includes an expansion and refurbishment of retail and entertainment areas, new multi-level office accommodation and additional parking and public transport facilities.

Expanding Chadstone Shopping Centre is strongly supported by the local council and community groups and Mr Guy has responded to issues raised as part of the consultation process.

“While all parties involved recognise Chadstone as a strategic location for future growth and development, managing future traffic flow will be critical to the success of this project.

“We have listened to local council and community concerns about traffic impacts and these concerns have been addressed as part of the amendment,” Mr Guy said.
