BlueScope Steel has announced it will be reducing its workforce at Western Port in Hastings, Victoria. The company has made it clear that the redundancies are due to a fall in demand for construction materials and the broader pressures on the manufacturing sector.

The company has also confirmed it will honour workers’ entitlements and the cut in employment is expected to be met through a round of voluntary redundancies.

While 150 jobs are expected to go, BlueScope has stressed its facilities at Western Port will remain open and on going.

The Federal Government has announced it will provide the workers with support to find alternative employment and reskilling.
