Four Australian universities have been ranked in the world’s top 50 universities in the inaugural QS World University Rankings for engineering and technology.             

The 2011 QS World University Rankings by Subject - Engineering and Technology Rankings are the first in a series of world university rankings which aims to rank universities by subject, based on academic and employer reputation surveys.

 

Across five engineering and technology study areas,  Australian universities that ranked in the top 50 are the University of Melbourne, at position 32, the University of New South Wales (42nd), the University of Sydney (44th) and ANU (45th).

 

The rankings were also provided for each of the five discipline areas – Computer Science and Information Systems, Civil and Structural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing. Within these rankings, some other Australian universities appeared within the top 20. 

 

In Civil and Structural Engineering, University of Queensland was equal 34th and Monash University was 36th; the University of Queensland achieved 29th position in Chemical Engineering, and Monash University was 35th  in Electrical Engineering  and 49th in Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing.
