The Queensland Government has announced a $40 million construction of the Fursden Creek Bridge in Mackay, North-East Queensland.

“This is the third major bridge project for Mackay and the $40 million for Fursden Creek Bridge will take our spending on bridges to $230 million.” State Minister for Major Roads Craig Wallace said.

Mr Wallace said that following detailed planning and design, construction of the Fursden Creek Bridge is expected to start in late 2012 and finish in 2014.

The $42.9 million Edmund Casey Bridge replaced the ageing timber Hospital Bridge with an easier to maintain concrete bridge in April 2009.

The $148 million Forgan Bridge duplication is nearing completion with final deck units now being placed on the bridge and the project expected to be finished in August, weather permitting.
