Position Description

The Cognitive Futures team consists of a mix of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software engineers who work together with business representatives to deliver tools, services, and applications in support of IP Australia’s strategic objects. Cognitive Futures commonly apply artificial intelligence/machine learning and other emerging technologies to deliver tactical and strategic solutions.

We are seeking an individual who is interested driving innovation, delivery in a fast-paced agile environment and making a difference through their work, with background in machine learning, data science, or software engineering:

• Contribute to the delivery of machine learning solutions to support IP Australia’s strategic objectives.
• Lead and contribute to the delivery of innovation solutions in a production environment – work as part of an agile, business-focussed team with a strong commitment to MLOps/DevOps principles.
• Provide data engineering expertise in working with big data to support machine learning development, facilitate research and product development.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate on machine learning or other data related initiatives.
• Build machine learning and data science capabilities within ITG by collaborating or training other data scientists or staff within the group.

Position Duties

As a Data Scientist, you will be expected to manage these primary responsibilities:

• Support the development of technical solutions, undertake research and development activities to meet the priorities of the Innovation Section. This may include the following activities:
• Data mining
• Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
• Undertaking analysis to identify opportunities for innovation and presenting results in a clear manner to stakeholders.
• Developing and evaluating machine learning models
• Creating and improving MLOps pipelines
• Software development
• Support the delivery of technical solutions using commercial cloud platforms (AWS)
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations based on well supported analysis.
