The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and adaptable engineer to join our team as the Engineering Functional Support Officer (FSO) in Canberra ACT within the Air Domain Centre Directorate of Engineering, part of the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG). This is the perfect opportunity for the successful candidate to gain experience in Defence Aviation and develop their professional skills within a range of aviation engineering and safety activities. The role provides the excellent opportunities to grow and develop into many other related roles within Defence and CASG.

The successful candidate will, in concert with and supported by the Air Domain Centre Directorate of Engineering team, be responsible for coordinating and delivering engineering and airworthiness enabling services and advice to the Air Domain Engineering and Technical staff within Canberra and regional areas supporting Defence Aviation. Additional employment locations will be considered, in particular, Newcastle and South East Queensland, depending on experience levels. Opportunities for flexible working arrangements are available. Your role enables you to have significant engagement with Air Domain and Engineering and Technical Function Centre management, staff and stakeholders throughout Australia providing the opportunity to work directly with regional stakeholders to implement engineering initiatives to improve engineering and governance processes.

About our Team

The Directorate of Engineering as part of the CASG ‘Balanced Matrix’ structure provides engineering support to Air Domain engineers, technicians and technical organisations responsible for the delivery of capability. The Directorate of Engineering is also responsible for the delivery of a range of engineering, science & technology functions including Air Domain engineering assurance activities, oversight of Air Domain aviation safety, stakeholder engagement, and the provision of maintenance optimisation services, advice and training across the Air Domain.

Our ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to influence positive outcomes with strong written and verbal communication. They will be outgoing and able to self-identify risks, issues and opportunities, and act upon those with minimal guidance from their direct chain of command. To perform this role effectively, you will be expected to have or to develop extensive knowledge of the application of Engineering and Technical professional services in the Aviation Safety environment.
