The Role
The position is required to build and sustain productive collaborative working relationships with regional maintenance providers and other stakeholders to ensure the best for program outcomes within an integrated and multi-class, maintenance organisation as part of the the Future Maritime Sustainment Model being delivered under Plan Galileo in Cairns.

The position is responsible for establishing the RMC-NE Product Management work unit and the relationships and processes required to integrate the Regional Maintenance Provider (RMP-NE) and associated regional and national suppliers.

About our Team
In response to the Australian Government developing a nationwide naval shipbuilding enterprise, the Future Maritime Sustainment Model is being implemented to realise Plan Galileo: Maritime System Division's national, long term approach to sustainment of the naval fleet.

The Regional Maintenance Centre – North East is located in tropical North Queensland, and will provide capability support to the Royal Australian Navy from the Cairns maritime precinct. The focus of this organisation will be on enhanced collaboration, co-ordination, workforce development and expansion to build the capability and capacity needed to meet increasing ship maintenance demands. You will also have access to generous and attractive working conditions as an Australian Public Servant in Defence.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate must be able to:

  • Display significant product management experience, ideally in the government environment.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-party enterprises integrating government and industry to achieve best for program outcomes.
  • Exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence, communication and stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to constructively participate in and occasionally lead potentially difficult negotiations to resolve conflict surrounding complex product management and technical issues.
  • Demonstrate significant experience in the governance and assurance of maintenance.
  • Apply comprehensive work knowledge, precedent and established legislation, policy, procedures and guidelines to situations involving a high level of complexity and sensitivity which require considerable interpretation and analysis
  • Provide effective staff supervision/management skills and/or experience including the ability to develop and build team capability.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and an ability to organise and prioritise competing priorities.
  • Display excellent written and verbal communication with a high-level ability to effectively engage stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Display the knowledge and experience in a Defence and / or Navy environment preferably relating to the sustainment of Naval platforms.
  • Have the ability to make accurate, considered and timely decisions in a complex product management environment balancing multiple stakeholder expectations.
