The Role
As the Optical Sensor Data Fusion and Management Engineer, the successful applicant will contribute to the development of advanced and innovative optical data acquisition systems for geospatial survey as part of the Littoral Sensing & Processing Science and Technology Capability (STC) in order to deliver program goals and activities. Under limited direction:

  • Contribute to the development of electro-optical sensors data fusion, including design, integration, laboratory and field testing and data post-processing and management
  • Integrate sensor systems with robotic and autonomous systems (RAS)
  • Provide support to liaise and collaborate with stakeholders to recognise their priorities and develop solutions that meet their needs and expectations
  • Deliver high quality scientific reporting including briefs, publications and presentations
  • Evaluate and select appropriate and effective techniques and methods to progress and achieve research outcomes
  • Participate in DSTG and ADF trials to develop RAS data management and collection processes for near real-time post processing

The Littoral Sensing and Processing (LSP) Group undertakes research in airborne optical/SONAR payload systems integration, advanced sensing and smart signal processing for maritime applications. It employs innovative multi-rotor airborne optical remote sensing and autonomous underwater vehicle acoustic payload system in a littoral environment.

  • Ability to conduct S&T investigations under limited direction and deliver important S&T outcomes
  • Good mathematical ability
  • Ability to perform high quality practical work, including with hardware and software systems in a laboratory of field environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and document S&T outcomes
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight and changeable deadlines.
