The Role
Under general direction from the Discipline Leader Global Naval Structures, you will undertake scientific activities, related to naval structures, to meet Defence requirements. This includes researching and overseeing new developments, and investigating and presenting scientific results using appropriate communication mediums.

You will be required to:

  • Provide solutions to moderately complex problems, based on sound knowledge of a range of techniques and applications.
  • Engage with stakeholders, to help develop solutions to meet their needs and expectations.
  • Work collaboratively, and operate as an effective team member.

About our Team
The Naval Architecture and Platform System Analysis Group is part of the Maritime Division. The Group guides research and development of advanced tools and methods to assess the whole-of-vessel performance for the Australian Defence Force. We support Defence in design assurance activities and the transitioning of innovative methods to Royal Australian Navy to increase availability, reduce costs and assure seaworthiness. We achieve this by partnering with both international and local organisations to remain at the cutting edge of scientific developments in whole-of-vessel performance including: seakeeping; multi-vessel interactions; operational loads; whole-of-vessel performance; structural response; integrated model based systems analysis and design trade-off studies.

Our Ideal Candidate
You have:

  • Research or engineering experience in the maritime industry, or competency is a related discipline.
  • Knowledge or experience in using Finite Element Method software packages to solve engineering problems.
  • Familiarity in using MATLAB, Python, or similar programming language for data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in required timeframes.

You have the ability to understand a range of techniques and applications to perform research, professional, and technical work associated with naval structures to achieve outcomes.

You provide support to liaise and collaborate with stakeholders to recognise their priorities and develop solutions that meet their needs. You can take initiative to investigate and address issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes.

You can deliver high quality scientific reporting including briefs, publications and presentations. You can build and sustain positive relationships and actively participate in team work and group activities.
