The Role
The Tactical Data Link Bureau (TDLB) located in Maryborough St Fyshwick, Canberra is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer. Tactical Data Link’s (TDL’s) underpin the integration of the Joint Force and are vital for ADF Operations as they connect sensors and weapon systems. The TDLB supports implementation of TDL and Message Text Format (MTF) functionality through the provision of specialist Engineering Advice and Test and Evaluation services.

As a Senior System Engineer, you will work within a mixed APS, Military and Industry team responsible for the governance of TDLB Engineering Management System, Quality Management Systems and Data Management System. Under broad direction, the Senior Systems Engineer will be providing specialist System Engineering support to ensure that TDLB services are delivered in accordance with the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) Engineering framework and ISO 9001:2015 frameworks. Additionally Senior System Engineer will be providing Engineering and Technical support to other areas of TDLB.

About our Team
The CASG TDLB was established to provide an ADF Centre of Expertise in TDLs and Message Text Formats (MTF). The primary goal of TDLB is to support CASG and Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) in ensuring that TDL platform functionality is correctly implemented so that integration and interoperability within the Joint Force and with allies and coalition partners is optimised.

The TDLB supports implementation of TDL functionality through the provision of specialist Technical Advice and Subject Matter Expertise, support to Interoperability Assurance, Test and Evaluation, and Laboratory and Infrastructure services.

These services are delivered in accordance with CASG Engineering framework and ISO9001:2015 frameworks. TDLB has an obligation to implement an assurance regime to provide justified confidence that service delivery is meeting the tenets of these frameworks.

TDLB provides specialist TDL Engineering and Technical support in the following areas; Requirement Setting and Risk Reduction, Industry Solicitation, Detailed Design, TDL and MTF Technical Advice, Development Test and Evaluation and Acceptance Test and Evaluation. The CASG TDLB was established to provide an ADF Centre of Expertise in TDLs and Message Text Formats (MTF). The primary goal of TDLB is to support CASG and Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) in ensuring that TDL platform functionality is correctly implemented so that integration and interoperability within the Joint Force and with allies and coalition partners is optimised.

Our Ideal Candidate
The TDLB is seeking a motivated and skilled System Engineer with an interest in supporting this strategically significant Independent TDL implementation and integration capability to the ADF. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Engineering governance and the ability to continue develop their leadership skills. 

Desired key attributes include:

  • A thorough understanding of the System Engineering, Quality Management and Data Management disciplines;
  • A good understanding of the Defence Capability Life Cycle;
  • Experience in working within teams within a complex environment;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders;
  • Strong Analytical and Writing Skills; and
  • High-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve results and business objectives.
