Defence Science and Technology (DST) is establishing a world-class High Performance Computing (HPC) Centre to enable DST to remain at the forefront of Defence research. Our HPC will provide advanced computational and data systems for innovative advanced research, development, modelling, simulation and experimentation to optimise military platform design, operational performance and to solve complex real-world defence problems.

Join us on the journey to a High Performance Computing future in DST. With your background in computational science and engineering, Linux, parallel programming and optimisation, or big data management you could significantly contribute to research in fields such as aerospace, cyber, electronic warfare, weapons and combat systems, national security, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

We are looking for IT professionals who are agile thinkers, work best in cross functional teams and are passionate about developing their skills and experience in a HPC environment. We have a number of positions available in a variety of roles and classifications:

  • SecDevOps Specialists
  • Data Centre Operators
  • HPC Computational Scientists
  • Data Management Systems Specialist
  • Software Engineers
  • File System Administrators
  • Digital Science Migration Engineers
  • HPC S&T Code Repository Specialists
  • Data Security Specialists

DST’s HPC platform is powered by a technology stack that will deliver a secure, centralised capability for the Defence and national security S&T ecosystem enabling research scientists to conduct high fidelity modelling and simulation. You will work with advanced hardware, software and techniques. You will be challenged, you will innovate. You may be:

  • Developing computational algorithms and statistical methods to find patterns and relationships in very large data sets.
  • Applying your coding efficiency and elegance to solve complex national security problems.
  • Developing and managing innovative architecture data strategies that include governance of data assets across the DST portfolio.
  • Maintaining and enhancing a secure, resilient and scalable sovereign HPC capability.
  • establishing strong and collaborative relationships with national and international partners, industry, academia and the Australian Defence Force

Eligibility

  • Australian citizenship
  • The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance

Location: Edinburgh, SA or Fisherman’s Bend, VIC

Salary: AU$67k - AU$142k per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation
