Located 40 kms north of Melbourne, the Shire of Mitchell with a population of 43,000 (projected to grow to 210,000 within the next 30 years) is an interface growth area offering a mix of rural and urban living with diversity of lifestyle and housing choices.

Reporting directly to the CEO and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this position embraces the functional responsibilities of strategic and statutory planning, engineering and major projects, operations and parks (including waste management), environmental programs and contract management.

The appointee will have a well-developed understanding of urban development and asset management in a high growth and change context, a sound understanding of the social, political, governance and legal frameworks within which local government operates and proven capacity to manage complex, diverse, multi-function portfolio responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be a team player with experience in driving cultural and organisational change with highly developed advocacy and negotiation skills and the ability to influence at all levels, success in resolving complex matters, delivery of high quality outcomes in a strategic context, superior performance standards and accountability, and excellent customer service and responsiveness.

Relevant tertiary and/or post-graduate qualifications in Engineering or Planning and Business Management or a related field are essential as is solid experience in delivering development and infrastructure services, preferably in Local Government.  A highly remunerated salary package and a three to five year contract will be negotiated.
