We have a fantastic opportunity for an accomplished Transport (Traffic) Engineering leader to join our Transport and Parking team within the Infrastructure and Assets branch.
Reporting into the Principal Engineer Transport and Parking, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of four senior engineers and three cadet engineers.
As the Team Leader Transport Engineering you will assist in further developing a team culture focused on inclusive design for all road users and collaborate with the internal and external stakeholders to deliver an inclusive and progressive approach to transport engineering. This role would suit an individual who is a highly skilled and tertiary qualified leader with extensive knowledge and experience across the public and / or private sector in transport/traffic engineering and management, active transport, road safety, vulnerable road users and kerbside management.
You will have a track record of leading high performing teams, being a collaborative and engaging leader with exceptional communication and influencing skills. Operating in a complex and busy environment, the role has a high level interface with internal and external stakeholders and builds strong and collaborative relationships with trust and credibility. To be successful in this role, you must share our values in enhancing and delivering outstanding customer service.

- Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive relevant experience in Transport and Traffic Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing successful teams, to meet corporate service delivery expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex transport/traffic management, road safety and accessibility issues for all road users and develop solutions that are inclusive and deliver benefit to all users of the network.
- Demonstrated experience in design, technology, innovation and stakeholder engagement in improving the transport network.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying, improving, implementing and recording processes, activities and culture to improve efficiency and productivity and enhance customer experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the design and successful delivery of traffic facilities and bike infrastructure projects including identification of approval points, review requirements, resourcing needs and consultation strategies within time and budget.
- Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate and manage a high volume of operational tasks to meet our customer service delivery requirements.
- Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to prepare high quality written reports and technical submissions.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships critical to the delivery of Council’s services.
