Senior Sustainability Officer Sustainable Infrastructure

$97, 883 - $100, 819 + 9.5% Superannuation

Temporary Full Time from August 2015 to 30th June 2017

The Sustainability Branch helps people within the organisation and municipality do things differently to achieve win-win outcomes. It strives for transformational change in resource use across the city. It does this by empowering others, bringing world leading knowledge and networks to the table, and sparking innovation and creative ideas. It works directly with the business and broader community, supports Council to embed sustainability in all its operations and develops and facilitates implementation of world leading strategies and policies.

The Position… will not be seen as the technical expert as it will be there to develop and deliver through others the City of Melbourne's comprehensive and replicable approach for the planning and delivery of sustainable infrastructure that key utility, institutions and other stakeholders support.

The position will:

  • Develop and implement sustainable infrastructure plans for the Lorimer and West Melbourne Structure plans.
  • Investigate and advocate for new finance, legislative, and incentive mechanisms to enable current (Southbank, Arden MacAuley) and future plans to be delivered.
  • Engage with utilities, major institutions and state government to enable alignment and co-delivery of sustainable infrastructure plans.
  • Contribute Environmentally Sustainable Design expertise to urban design, planning, and building projects on an as needed basis.

You will have…(selection criteria)

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values –      accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of sustainable infrastructure     technologies and approaches and ecologically sustainable design.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in environment, engineering, design, sustainability, public policy, or business related field.
  • Proven capability to contribute to skill development of team members by providing coaching, mentoring and support.
  • Innovative and creative approaches to problem solving.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain productive networks, engaging with community and business stakeholders and providing high quality customer service.
  • High level project management capability including demonstrated experience in leading projects with the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget, and to balance and respond to competing priorities.
  • High level research and data management skills, including computer word processing, spreadsheet, database, web content management, social     media and internet.
