Submarine Sonar Systems Modeller

APS 4/5-6 (S&T 3-4)
$65,133 - $89,449 (plus super)
Garden Island, WA

Submarines are vital to Australia’s strategic defence.  To ensure “safety of ship”, to remain undetected, and achieve the mission an Australian submarine must sense the environment better than anyone else.  A key system to do this is the submarine’s passive sonar system.

Through modelling, simulation, and analysis of existing and future passive sonar systems, the Passive Sonar group assesses the performance and requirements for the passive sonar systems onboard the Collins Class Submarine as well as for Australia’s Future Submarine.

In this role, under the guidance and mentorship of Passive Sonar staff, you will use your physical sciences or engineering skills to undertake modelling, simulation and analysis of passive sonar systems to inform current and future submarine warfare.  The role requires you to develop a wide variety of skills and knowledge across a range of disciplines including oceanography, ocean acoustics, systems engineering, signal processing and human systems integration.
