Salary Range: $76,873- $99,459 (plus 15.4% superannuation)

T4 Protective Security (T4) is one of the Australian Government's principal advisers on protective security in Australia.

As a Technical Officer in T4 Protective Security's (T4) Engineering directorate you will be at the forefront of providing professional and effective technical surveillance countermeasures (TSCM) services and advice to assist Australian government departments and agencies manage and mitigate the risk of technical surveillance.  This work provides a level of assurance that highly classified or sensitive discussions and information are not subject to compromise through technical attack.

Job Description

As part of a team, you will primarily be responsible for conducting technical inspections and radio frequency surveys for Australian Government clients to provide a level of assurance that areas where classified discussions are held are not subject to compromise through technical means. Periodically you may be required to conduct vulnerability testing and evaluation of varied security equipment against approved test criteria developed by T4 Engineering to identify their suitability for use in securing government personnel and information.

Under minimal supervision your responsive nature will ensure stakeholders are serviced quickly and effectively while managing competing priorities.

Your role within the small but busy team will require you to:

  • Plan and undertake effective, efficient and risk based TSCM inspections for T4 clients.
  • Proactively monitor changes in technology and its impact on technical security.
  • Identify and assist in developing or procuring capabilities to support TSCM inspections;
  • Provide technical security awareness and education to clients, including developing educational and awareness material;
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships between T4 TSCM, relevant ASIO sections and partner agencies.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

The role requires highly motivated individuals with a sound technical grounding in electronics and/or electro-mechanical engineering, who are practical problem solvers and appreciate the importance of working effectively as part of a team to achieve required outcomes.

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience and qualifications (trade or higher) in electronics or electro-mechanical engineering
  • Possess an analytical and resourceful mind set to assess the technical security of areas inspected and identify vulnerabilities from a compromise perspective
  • Effective communicator
  • Ability to adapt to emerging technologies as they evolve

Desirable:

  • Experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of security equipment and systems
  • Understanding of Physical Security and its application to Government
  • Knowledge of building management systems; electrical, fire and/or emergency building services; radio frequency communications; telecommunications;
  • Experience in building construction methods
  • Working understanding of information technology (IT) networks, cyber-security principles and their vulnerabilities
