The Director Operational Engineering has senior leadership and management responsibilities, providing innovative technical solutions and in-house support to ASIO’s lawful technical collection operations. To provide these, the occupants have extensive interaction, across multiple technical disciplines, with peers and expert teams in the Organisation and national and international intelligence agencies. 

This role is one of technical vision and creativity, coupled with a clear sense of what is necessary and practicable to achieve operational requirements. It has a strong outcomes focus, and involves the direction and oversight of projects undertaken by discrete teams of high-performing engineers and technicians within the Operational Engineering group. To this end, the occupants have senior-level responsibility for strategic direction and priorities for engineering initiatives, project design, budgets, delivery, quality control and end-to-end capability management. 

Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for this role you should have:

• Highly developed management and leadership skills in an engineering environment, with extensive experience balancing competing priorities and assigning and monitoring resources against progress;
• Highly developed interpersonal, stakeholder engagement and communication (both written and oral) skills;
• A demonstrated track record in identifying and delivering innovative technical solutions to meet strategic and tactical operational requirements;
• Extensive project management experience involving complex, challenging or high cost/high risk projects; and 
• A tertiary qualification in a technical or engineering-related or management discipline.

It would be an advantage to have a sound understanding of the technical capabilities required in an intelligence, defence or law enforcement operational context.
