The Opportunity

Icon Water’s Digital Technology Group requires a motivated individual with passion for data governance to join the team as their Data Governance Officer. In this role, you will have the opportunity to implement the data strategy and data governance frameworks.

Using your strong research skills, effective stakeholder collaboration and communication, you will add value by challenging assumptions, carrying out in-depth analysis and providing succinct data governance recommendations to the business.

A day in the life..

  • Work closely with the business to implement the data strategy and data governance frameworks.
  • Lead the management of data across the business to improve data governance, data quality and master data practices.
  • Organise and lead governance forums and work with stakeholders across the business to baseline data maturity and improve maturity.
  • Act as an SME for data governance processes, frameworks, standards and architectures.
  • Ensure data practices integrate into overall data architectures and data management principles (e.g. data governance, data security, metadata, data standards and quality).
  • Act as the key advisor and engagement contact for nominated business areas or projects.
  • Engage and educate key stakeholders as well as technical and operational teams across the business on data governance processes and procedures.
  • Support the Data Governance Executive Sponsor in strategic planning and road mapping.
  • Ensure Icon Water complies with applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies and data standards we create and apply to our use of data.
  • Deliver timely, accurate and high-quality data maturity reports for management.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Data and Information Management or another related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in a Data Governance role in a similar sized organisation.
  • Experience leading, developing and executing upon a data governance strategy within an organisation.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and working across different business units.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Our Desirables

  • Experience in using and implementing industry standard Data Governance frameworks such as CMMI
  • Data Governance related certifications such as CDMP, ICCP or other relevant vendor certifications
  • Understanding of ICT and cloud technologies
  • Understanding of data and privacy legislation, information security policies and standards including but not limited to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), Territory Records Act 2002 (ACT).
  • Experience working with Office 365, Business Intelligence reporting tools, data migration and data quality assurance tools.
