The Opportunity

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modelling experience
  • Full-time opportunity with access to flexible working arrangements
  • Join CSIRO - Australia's National Science and Innovation Agency

CSIRO’s Mineral Resources is one of the largest minerals research and development groups in the world, with a proud track record in delivering innovation and solutions across the mineral resources value chain. We apply our expert knowledge and specialised research to deliver innovation that solves the challenging, complex problems faced by minerals companies, mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies, government, and other industry stakeholders.

As a Senior Research Scientist/Engineer – Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modeller you’ll be a part of Mineral Resources’ CFD team that develops and applies multiphase CFD models to a range of multiphase mineral processing, energy, and metal production unit operations with the aim of improving process efficiency and developing new processes. You’ll be conducting, coordinating, and leading cutting-edge research in the development and application of CFD models to a range of mineral processing and other unit operations.

What is so exciting about this role? You’ll have the exposure to work on both projects for external clients and in collaboration with CSIRO’s internal research teams with a limitless opportunity to share your expertise and learn on the way.

Your duties will include:

  • Participating in research directed towards improving processes and equipment for the minerals and other processing industries.
  • Developing multi-phase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models of equipment used in the minerals and related process industries and carrying out simulations using these models.
  • Analysing, interpreting and reporting the results of CFD simulations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Preparing industry reports, conference presentations and journal papers detailing the work and participating in presentations to the industry as appropriate.
  • Developing and performing CFD simulations to assist in improving and developing new and existing processes and/or equipment.
  • Leading and supervising staff and students to ensure projects are established in accordance with client requirements and are completed within the agreed timeframes and budget.
