CSIRO is home to extensive Earth Observation (EO) science and has established and operated EO satellite calibration sites across Australia for over 15 years.  We continue to grow this capability in support of the National Space Mission for Earth Observation (NSMEO) through further development of the AusCalVal Facility. The National Planning and Engagement Lead - AusCalVal Facility is a leadership role in an exciting new program of Earth observation activities being established to support the implementation of the Australian Government Earth Observation from Space Roadmap (‘EO Roadmap’), including the NSMEO.

As the National Planning and Engagement Lead - AusCalVal Facility, you will support the Manager AusCalVal Facility in the planning and implementation of the AusCalVal Facility, and lead critical cross-agency national engagement and coordination of activities on satellite calibration and validation.  You will collaborate with cal/val experts in Australia’s Earth observation research and industry community, including those that operate key cal/val sites across the country.  In this key role, you will also coordinate joint activities between AusCalVal and relevant NCRIS Facilities (eg TERN and IMOS), that already operate science infrastructure for satellite calibration and that conduct derived satellite data product validation activities.

In this role you will:

• Support planning and progressive implementation of the national AusCalVal facility and associated partnerships across Australia.
• Coordinate collaborations with prospective AusCalVal technical and science partners.
• Coordinate specialised satellite data product validation activities involving internal and external stakeholders. 
• Coordinate local approval processes and community engagement for establishment of new national AusCalVal sites across Australia.
• Engage with Australian satellite development teams that may require calibration services.
• Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed AusCalVal implementation team (including contractors).
• Represent the organisation in external scientific or technological forums, as required.

Location:  Canberra (ACT), Adelaide (SA) or Perth (WA)
Salary:  AU$117k - AU$138k pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

• A relevant bachelor’s or postgraduate degree or equivalent relevant work experience in science laboratory operations and/or associated infrastructure operations.
• Successful multi-partner project and relationship management experience.
• An understanding of Earth observation applications and associated calibration/validation needs.
• A track record of developing and delivering new collaborative research or business opportunities.
• High-level communication, negotiation and networking skills.
