Research Software Engineer - Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP)
Acknowledgement of Country
CSIRO acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, sea and waters, in the areas where we live and work across Australia. We acknowledge their continuing connection to their culture and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. View our vision towards reconciliation.
The Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) is CSIRO’s new-technology radio telescope. Located in the remote Murchison region of Western Australia, a unique feature of ASKAP is that a supercomputer forms an integral part of the telescope. ASKAP produces data at an unprecedented rate (3GB/s), that is sent to the Pawsey High Performance Computing (HPC) centre in Perth in real time. The need for ASKAP to produce science ready data products, combined with the need to process extremely large volumes of data very quickly in a supercomputing environment, creates a challenging software ecosystem.
As a Research Software Engineer with CSIRO’s Space and Astronomy business unit (S&A), you will develop innovative software and software components that coordinate and perform efficient flow of radio astronomy data. Working within a HPC environment, you will make a valuable contribution to current and future astronomy-related research.
S&A is committed to providing a safe and inclusive workplace culture and implementing initiatives to improve diversity and equity within our workplace. This role is offered on a full-time or part-time basis.
Location: Kensington (Perth) Western Australia or Marsfield (Sydney) New South Wales
Salary: AU$100k - AU$111k pa (pro-rata for part-time) + up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Indefinite – Full-time or part-time, minimum 60 hours/fortnight
Reference: 80110
