The Opportunity
The Position
The Services division in CSIRO is currently looking for a Research Technician to work as a Technical Officer - Fire-Resistance Testing to support our Structural Fire laboratory located at North Ryde. This commercially focussed laboratory provides product testing services and technical guidance and consulting to the construction, manufacturing and infrastructure sector pertaining to the commercial testing of building materials and systems in accordance with the requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC).
You will be assisting with all testing activities within the Structural Fire laboratory including project management, specimen documentation, supervision of full scale specimen construction, test instrumentation and technical reporting in accordance with the requirements of both Australian and international test standards.
You will be directly communicating with the commercial clients at all levels of the construction industry to provide structural fire testing of building systems in accordance with the framework outlined within the National Construction Code (BCA).
Additionally, you will also get an opportunity to assist with activities relating to other types of fire testing which includes including bushfire testing, tests on electrical cables and support systems as well as other ad hoc tests when required

Salary: AU$63,594 - AU$80,937 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need
Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.
1. Testing experience in a NATA accredited testing laboratory related to building products and systems or the successful completion of tertiary qualifications in relevant Engineering or Science fields related to the performance of materials under elevated temperatures.
2. Good communication skills and experience with the writing of detailed technical reports.
3. A knowledge of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), particularly the Deemed to Satisfy provisions relating to fire resistance.
4. Knowledge of Australian and International fire testing standards.
5. Project management experience.
6. Knowledge of HSE requirements pertaining to a fire testing laboratory environment.
Desirable Criteria:
• Experience in laboratory and field investigations and/or laboratory equipment or other relevant experience relating to the fire performance of building systems.
• Ability to communicate to all levels of the building industry and infrastructure sector as well as the ability to interpret technical fire testing and design standards.
