Research Data Officer

The Climate Science Centre within CSIRO are on the lookout for a Data Officer to join their team. The position sits within the Coupled Climate Modelling Team which develops climate and earth system modelling systems using the Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator (ACCESS).

Your primary focus will be supporting the submission of ACCESS model output to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6). As the Data Officer you will contribute to development and implementation of the post-processing pipeline for producing compliant data files from ACCESS model output files.

The role would ideally suit a person with an interest in climate science to provide more effective support in the role.

Your duties will include

  • Facilitate data transfer between different storage facilities including providing tools, instruction and support to modellers for managing their data storage and transfer needs.
  • Monitor ACCESS model runs and outputs to ensure sufficient storage space on appropriate disks and/or tape.
  • Run model output through this CMIP6 post-processing pipeline and provide training to colleagues on the use of the pipeline.
  • Contribute to documenting the datasets (following CMIP6 protocols) and writing relevant documentation.

Location:       Melbourne (Aspendale), Vic
Tenure:          Specified Term of 18 months
Salary:           AU$82K – AU$93K + up to 15.4% Superannuation

To be successful you will need

  1. A Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in computing, engineering or physical sciences.
  2. Have highly developed skills in Python or a similar scripting language
  3. The ability to use Linux/Unix operating system.
  4. The ability to work with large datasets.
