Software Engineer - C++ Application Development

The position

An outstanding opportunity exists for a motivated and skilled software engineer to join Data61's Computational Modelling and Simulation (CMS) Group. The CMS Group uses world leading techniques and technologies to model real world situations such as natural disasters, industrial processes, human motion and much more. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of software engineers and scientists that provide advanced modelling software and applications to researchers and industry. In addition to writing commercial-quality software in C++, this position will involve leading small projects that contribute to team objectives, under the guidance of the team leader.

In this role you will be responsible for developing commercial-quality applications using our software infrastructure in support of Data61 and CSIRO scientists, as well as external clients. To be successful you mou must have proven experience developing commercial applications using C++, be adept in the use of state of the art software development processes and systems, and have a professional and proactive view of your software engineering career. As such, you will be looking to further your experience and skills by joining and contributing to a professional software team.

Salary:               $62K - $79K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure:              Specified term until 30/6/19

To be successful you will need:

  • A relevant Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Demonstrated programming experience in C++
  • Demonstrated experience in software development processes and software development systems. In particular, demonstrated experience of working in a test-driven, agile development or continuous integration environment is necessary.
  • Evidence of experience with the following software utilities: a) Source code repositories (i.e. SVN/Git), b) Work item tracking (i.e. JIRA/TFS), c) GUI libraries (i.e. Qt/MFC), d) Cross platform build systems (i.e. CMake) and e) Workspace – Scientific Workflow Platform
