Position Summary

In this position, you will be:

  • Responsible to carry-out research program of fabricating and characterising of 2D materials; involving the growth and characterisation of a range of materials, predominantly semiconducting and other related 2D materials exfoliated from liquid metal surfaces

To be successful in this position:

  • You will have experience in materials characterisation techniques using X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS) and also equipped with experience in the growth of 2D materials, device fabrication and testing techniques
  • Experience in operating and using atomic scale microscopy will be highly regarded

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work independently as well as collaboratively with the team in contributing to quality research showcasing research areas outputs publications, development of new research initiatives, presentation of research findings in high quality journals via written reports and oral presentations
  • Conduct and provide high quality research in 2D liquid metal exfoliated materials and characterisation using XPS and AFM
  • Preparation of m aterials and sample surface and interfaces for further investigation at RMIT and at the Australian Synchrotron
  • Perform testing on fabricated devices based on 2D exfoliated materials
  • Contribute 10% of your time to supervise PhD students


Skills and Experience Required

  • PhD qualified in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Physics, Physical Chemistry or Materials Sciences and/or relevant working experience ideally in these areas
  • Demonstrated technical competencies in fabricating and characterizing physical and electronic surface and interface properties of these 2D exfoliated materials
  • Possess experience in range of surface and interface characterisation methids, using photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS) and scanning probe microscopy (AFM)
  • Proven track record of published research work in the field of 2D materials characterization, surface and interface science in reputable journals and presentation as well as research grant and funding applications
  • Strong verbal communication and written skills
  • Sound technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Passion and commitment to build strong relationships across all levels of professional staff within the organisation, and equip with strong technical report writing and verbal communications
