Employment Type: Full Time, continuing
Salary: ACAD E
We now have a great opportunity for a Professor Civil Engineering, within the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies at James Cook University (JCU). This position is based in Townsville and is offered on a continuing basis.
Division of Tropical Environments and Societies
The Division of Tropical Environments and Societies recognises the grand challenges facing the world today and the particular role that will be played out in the tropics. Here more than anywhere else environments and societies will see dramatic change in population growth, loss of biodiversity, and an apparent need for food production and security.
We are uniquely positioned to deliver excellence across teaching, learning and research in these areas. We undertake multi-disciplinary research across chemical, civil and mechanical engineering disciplines, with a focus on the design of resilient, efficient and sustainable engineered structures and systems.
Current research themes include fluid mechanics, sustainable infrastructure and energy conversion and development, wind and structural engineering and nutrient recovery. As a technical hub for the Cyclone Testing Station, we seek to improve the resilience of communities and quality of life in the face of natural hazards in the tropics.
Your role
As an accomplished leader in your field you will consolidate JCU’s teaching and research expertise in Civil Engineering. You will build an international profile in Civil Engineering with applications focused on northern Australia and the broader tropical world. Key to your success in this challenging role will be your ability to provide high level academic leadership within the Group of Infrastructure and Design whilst working in partnership with the JCU Cyclone Testing Station.
Your proven track record of publishing research, attracting research funding, supervising students and teaching in relevant engineering disciplines is critical. Your research is applications-focused and your interests in impacts of extreme weather events including windstorms and flooding; simulation and modelling; design and response of infrastructure particularly in extreme events; coastal or wind engineering; or structural engineering will be highly regarded.
