Special Projects Officer - Lake Macquarie Waste Management Facilities

Infrastructure to support Lake Macquarie’s waste management strategy is a key priority for the city. This position will project manage the approvals, detailed design and construction of new or extended waste management facilities for Lake Macquarie. The range of facilities includes life extension or waste transfer works at the Awaba Waste Management Facility including:

  • New landfill cells, and/or capping of existing landfill cells
  • Package pump station and rising sewer main
  • Intersection reconstruction
  • Environmental monitoring infrastructure
  • Waste transfer station, weighbridge relocation and wheel wash
  • Site civil infrastructure (internal roads, car parking and services)
  • Re-use centre and staff administration building
  • biodiversity offsets

The position will also:

  • monitor the design and construction of an advanced waste treatment facility to service the City’s needs, and
  • work with the third party provider of gas capture infrastructure to facilitate the continued operation of the existing system as well as its deployment into new landfill cells.

A rare opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced applicant to join the project management team for a temporary, full time two (2) year placement, with the possibility of extension through to project completion.

To be successful for this role, you will have:

  • Degree in an appropriate discipline i.e. Engineering, Project Management, Construction, or other relevant training and extensive experience. Civil Engineering qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded
  • Experience and proven record of accomplishment in project management of civil construction projects
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documentation including plans and specifications
  • Demonstrated strong financial skills in the area of cost control, monitoring, and reporting
  • Knowledge and application of project planning and scheduling of civil projects
  • Experience and proven track record working in a team and liaising with Government agencies, internal user groups and external stakeholders
  • Ability to define project scope and analyse tenders to engage relevant consultants and construction contractors
  • Experience and proven record of accomplishment in contract management and administration of construction projects, in excess of $10M, with particular regard to administration of contracts under Australian Standard General Conditions
  • Experience with WHS and quality systems
  • Experience managing contractors and site works
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • a Driver’s Licence

Salary: $89,445.75 to $96,297.32 per annum plus super
