About the role

Our client, a large company in the oil & gas industry, is recruiting an Environmental Business Partner to manage their existing team.

The position is offered on a 6-month initial contract, with potential for a permanent opportunity in future and reports directly to the Head of Environment. The successful applicant will have experience managing others and a keen desire to progress their career in the industry.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all site environmental performance, monitoring and reporting obligations are met
  • Provide a governance role to the senior leadership team on the overall site legal compliance status
  • Champion the environmental program by designing and implementing programs to increase environmental performance
  • Implement environmental awareness programs to lift the understanding and engagement of the workforce around Environmental opportunities and obligations.
  • Develop, implement and report against corporate and site environmental key performance indicators for the site in conjunction with the senior leadership team
  • Improve the site Environmental Management System (EMS) to maintain certification in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 14001:2015 Standard for Environmental Management Systems
  • Oversee the environmental performance of the site by undertaking regular inspections and actions, and by engaging with the mining contactor, to ensure a high level of environmental performance
  • Oversee the management and implementation of systems to record, interpret and retain monitoring data from both statutory and non-statutory monitoring in accordance with Environmental monitoring requirements
  • Lead and coordinate the environmental team and external contractors in delivering the business plan
  • Document and communicate environmental risks and ensure that control measures are implemented and understood by the site. Elevate potential risks within the business to ensure that adequate mitigation measures are adopted

Advantageous Skills/Experience

  • Relevant qualification in the field of science, environmental science, or environmental engineering
  • Experience in managing environmental matters for a company in the heavy industries
  • Hands-on environmental management skills and approach
  • Experience in working with a range of environmental functional specialists
  • Experience in leading a team and preparation and management of a functional budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to take proactive action to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of environmental management systems
