Project Technical Director

About The Role: 

We are currently seeking a Technical Director to join our Oven Mountain Pump Hydro Storage Project team based in Sydney, Reporting to the Project Director. The main responsibility for this role is to control, develop, manage and coordinate the provision of the full technical workstream comprising civil, mechanical and electrical front-end engineering and design phases through to financial investment decision. This will include major tenders and partners so that results are achieved for a complex, high-value project on time and on budget to agreed standards of quality.

About the Project:

The project is an “off-river” development located adjacent to the Macleay River situated in the New England Renewable Energy Zone. The project will provide up to 900MW of electricity generating capacity, with between 8 and 12 hours of dispatchable energy available to the NEM.

The project is well progressed through the planning phase with the project team having completed the majority of onsite surveys, investigations and design work required for the Project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which is expected to be submitted in Q1-2023.

Duties:

  • Lead and deliver all technical components of the project
  • Develop and deliver against project development goals and objectives
  • Play a vital role during the development and procurement phase leading to final investment decision and into construction
  • Build and maintain productive internal and external relationships to facilitate the delivery of the project
  • Ensure robust reporting frameworks are established and maintained to assist decision making

Skills & Experience:

  • Highly seasoned professional civil or hydraulic engineer (MSC or BSc), recognised as a leader in the field
  • Senior leader with extensive experience in dams, tunnels, hydropower, and/or pumped storage projects
  • Apply advanced knowledge of engineering disciplines and practices to the delivery of major technical projects
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of how to manage larger external contractors and other key stakeholders
  • Creates a climate that encourages and supports, persistence and genuine debate around critical issues
