Job Description

As Coordinator Strategic Planning, you will have the opportunity to lead significant city shaping projects in a flexible, supportive and collaborative environment.

You will drive the successful development and implementation of the department’s diverse portfolio of key land use and development projects which strategically plan for and manage growth in the municipality. As a senior leader you will effectively mentor, coach and lead a highly skilled and passionate strategic planning team. Using your extensive experience you will innovate, test and deliver a broad range of initiatives that shape our city to the benefit of our community and environment. You will foster strong relationships with internal team members and council and key external agencies including the Department of Transport and Planning and other Government agencies, local businesses and trader groups. You will also advocate for changes to State and Federal Government policies, projects and reforms to achieve positive outcomes for our community.

This is a permanent full time opportunity with an annual salary range of $119k - $132k  per annum + 10.5% superannuation, with a monthly accrued day off arrangement and hybrid working from home and our modern and sustainable office, surrounded by an abundance of cafe's, restaurants, shops, public transport and so much more.

Desired Skills and Experience 

To succeed in this position you will need:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team is essential as well as relevant qualifications in Urban Planning or related discipline and experience in a complex urban planning environment
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and the preparation of planning scheme amendments.
  • Highly developed project planning and delivery skills, with proven capacity to champion, guide and implement complex strategic projects.
  • Proven track record in developing and facilitating effective networks and connections between stakeholders in government bodies and private industry.
  • Highly effective communication and collaboration skills with proven ability to influence and negotiate on specialist issues.
  • Effective relationship building strategies for gaining buy-in and support from internal stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
  • A balanced, objective and evidence-based approach to complex decision making.
  • Experience in heritage planning is highly regarded.
