Job Description

This key role in the team will positively influence the outcome of major State Government infrastructure and housing projects, generating lasting community benefit for the Stonnington community.

As a senior member of the team, you will collaborate with external agencies including Homes Victoria, Metro Tunnel and Rail Project Victoria. You will foster strong relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including Councillors, Executive Team, local community and State government project teams.

The role will involve developing advocacy positions, project managing the coordination of inputs from teams across Council, liaising with State Government Teams and negotiating outcomes in the interest of the municipality. Continuing to support the elevation of the team across the organisation and within the wider industry, the successful applicant will use prior knowledge and experience in planning/master planning to identify key issues and opportunities with State Government proposals, monitor progress of projects against agreed program timeframes and deliverables, and ensure interdependent Council projects and authorities are engaged and informed. You will also represent Council to a high professional level at various related internal and external stakeholder meetings and forums.

This is a temporary full-time position for 2.5 years with an annual salary range of $103,458 - $114,909 per annum + 10.5% superannuation and a monthly day off arrangement. Flexible work options are available such as a compressed 4-day work week and hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of 2 days within the office. Desired Skills and Experience 

To thrive within this role you will be enthusiastic, proactive, driven, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Within this position you will be involved in a variety of programs and projects, therefore you must be able to adapt skills to address project specific needs and conflicting demands.

Background experience and knowledge of urban/infrastructure planning particularly in a local government context would be preferred. Using demonstrated abilities to develop collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, you will help derive the best possible community outcomes from State government projects within the Municipality.

You also have:

  • Understanding of planning and design issues associated with major urban development/infrastructure proposals
  • Highly developed conceptual skills with proven capability in writing and presenting reports and making recommendations to Council/stakeholders on a wide range of matters
  • Proven capability in advocacy, facilitation and influencing project outcomes that align with Council’s objectives
  • Excellent project management, consultation and financial management skills with knowledge and/or experience of industry related project management tools
  • A degree in Urban Planning, Transport Planning, Engineering, or equivalent with relevant experience in infrastructure projects and/or extensive and diverse specialist experience.
