The Opportunity – School of Computing and Information Systems
With a fresh new Business Process Management (BPM) Team only formed six months ago, yet with a solid experience developed over more than a decade of high-calibre research in BPM and related areas, the team are looking to further establish themselves as the world leading BPM Team. We are now seeking 2 Senior/Research Fellow to join them on their journey, to work in the areas of process mining and business process intelligence. Both opportunities are offered on a fixed term basis (2 years) and you will work closely with our leading Researchers in their respective field.

The Team
The BPM Team carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to the School of Computing and Information Systems, within the full spectrum of process mining research, including topics such as automated process discovery, performance mining, conformance checking, process variants analysis, and predictive and prescriptive process monitoring. The team has attracted significant research grants, presented their work in prestigious conferences and journals, and obtained numerous best paper awards. The team also benefits from a wide industry network both in Australia and overseas, through which they entertain a number of industry collaborations leading real-life impact, including significant technology transfer.

The Role
A typical day will see you drive research, run prototypes, write research papers, evaluate and publish your research, in a collaborate effort with other members of the team. You will have the opportunity to lead research that contributes to and enhances the BPM Team’s major research themes and supports growth and knowledge in process mining and business process intelligence. 

Research Fellow profile:

  • PhD awarded or near completion in computer science, information systems or a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in process mining and business process intelligence

 Senior Research Fellow:

  • PhD awarded or near completion in computer science, information systems or a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in process mining and business process intelligence
  • Extensive set of high-quality publications on process mining and business process intelligence
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision of research students (e.g. PhD, MPhil)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machine learning/data mining

Further experienced required (both roles):

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and developing software prototypes for research purposes
  • Expert knowledge and ability in programming
  • Demonstrated ability to extract meaningful insights from large and complex datasets, and to think analytically and creatively in identifying emergent patterns
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research
  • Outstanding communication to engage students and a variety of industry, research and government stakeholders
