About the opportunity 

Reporting to AMME Workshop Manager, the Biomedical Engineering Technical Officer will be responsible for supporting the Biomedical Engineering research and teaching labs in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. The School of AMME supports Biomedical Engineering research across many disciplines, including biomaterials, implant design, biomechanics and biomedical imaging. The School also boasts strong links with industry in Australia and overseas, including the recently launched ARC Industry Transformation Training Centre in Innovative BioEngineering.

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or is certified to work in a biomedical engineering laboratory together with some work experience and willingness to undertake further studies to better develop their skills in laboratory techniques/methods.
  • Extensive experience in supporting biomedical engineering labs, including but not limited to biological testing of biomaterials, microscopy, biomedical imaging, implant design and related fields.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to apply theoretical knowledge and techniques to meet the key accountabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, organise and prioritise work sometimes with limited supervision and exercise sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including storing research data appropriately in databases and/or statistical analysis programs, and extracting relevant reporting and/or analysis.
  • Sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment including experience in working with hazardous substances with well-rounded experience in implementing safety procedures relevant to the laboratory.

Successful candidates will also be asked to provide input into the design and development of new laboratory spaces.
