We are currently inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Alloys for Biomedical Devices in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. The position will be located at the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis.

The emphasis will be on the development of new alloys for biomedical devices, including biodegradable Mg alloys, for various applications, including global endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) devices (stents). The project is supported by supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC) through both an ARC linkage project and an Industrial Transformation Research Hub. (The ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing of Personalised Medical Devices). The project will be conducted in collaboration with an industry partner, Cook Medical, and will involve characterization of alloys via atom probe tomography, transmission electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, transmission Kikuchi diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.  

Applications are sought from candidates with a PhD in Engineering or Science, or a related discipline. Applicants should have excellent proven skills in the fields of materials science and microstructural characterisation.

Located on the University’s Camperdown campus, the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis hosts world-class facilities, and is renowned for its research excellence. The Centre headquarters the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility. Researchers have access to an outstanding array of nanostructural analysis equipment, both within the Centre and at our partner nodes

The position is full-time, fixed term for 2 years subject to a satisfactory probation period for new appointees with the possibility of extension subject to funding. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. In line with ARC’s requirements for Chief Investigators in ARC grants, you must be able to legally work in Australia for the duration of the grant/award/fellowship.
