We are currently inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Wear Resistant Materials in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. The position will be located at the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis.

The emphasis will be on the development of new, wear resistant alloys for the mining industry and is part of a collaborative project with Weir Minerals Australia, supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Weir minerals through the ARC linkage project. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with the industry partner, and will involve the fabrication and characterization of alloys using advanced techniques such as vacuum induction casting, optical metallography, scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.

Applications are sought from candidates with a PhD in Engineering or Science, or a related discipline. Applicants should have excellent proven skills in the fields of metallurgy and microstructural characterisation. Experience with mechanical testing, especially wear testing, would be an advantage, as would experience working with industry partners.

Located on the University’s Camperdown campus, the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis hosts world-class facilities, and is renowned for its research excellence. The Centre headquarters the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility. Researchers have access to an outstanding array of nanostructural analysis equipment, both within the Centre and at our partner nodes

The position is full-time, fixed term for 1 year subject to a satisfactory probation period for new appointees with the possibility of extension subject to funding. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. In line with ARC’s requirements for Chief Investigators in ARC grants, you must be able to legally work in Australia for the duration of the grant/award/fellowship.
